USTA and Levy Welcome Media for Tasting Day

Yesterday, in conjunction with our partners at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, we were thrilled to welcome media into ACES, one of the five restaurants on the property, to sample all of the new and exciting menu items set for the 2012 US Open! Levy's Executive Chef Jim Abbey, along with celebrity chefs David Burke and Tony Mantuano and Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto prepared a myriad of dishes for the hungry participants, all of which were met with great approval and praise.

Greater Chicago Food Depository

Members of our home office team participated in a volunteer trip to the Greater Chicago Food Depository this past Wednesday! We helped organize and pack food over 51,000 bags of oatmeal! Last year, GCFD helped distribute 69 million pound of food –the equivalent of 140,000 meals every day! We were proud to take part in the day and help with this great organization.

What’s the best way to celebrate the 10th birthday of our favorite corner tap? A kegger of course! Next Thursday, we’ll be celebrating a decade of Jake Melnicks Corner Tap with a keg party in our newly remodeled Keg Room from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.  There will be drink and food specials and what kind of birthday party would be complete without drinking games? We’ll be playing beer pong for a chance to win prizes including Cubs and Sox tickets. See you there!

In honor of our nation's 236th birthday next week, Bar Toma is participating in Iowa-based La Quercia’s “Ham Independence Week,” celebrating the American “prosciutto of happiness” and domestically-made cured meats! Bar Toma hosted an exclusive prosciutto tasting happy hour last night and will be offering prosciutto tastings at the wine bar to those who come for dinner tonight. See you there!

Drivers, Start Your Summers!

NASCAR drivers Danica Patrick, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and Justin Allgaier joined us at Oak Street Beach Food + Drink this week for a souped up beach party with Chicagoland Speedway to unveil their new logo and celebrate our continued partnership! Event attendees enjoyed sampling some of the tracks new signature items including Blueberry Moonshine,  Chicken and Waffle Sandwiches, Brisket Sliders and “The Intimidator” Dog, a hot dog fully loaded with homemade mac and cheese and crispy bacon.

Happy Father's Day!

This weekend is Father’s day, which means it’s time for Dad to hang up his apron and for someone else to fire up the grill.  While you may not have Dad’s mad grilling skills, this recipe for a double burger will definitely make him proud.

Double Burger

Grilled Double Burger
¼ pound hamburger patties, 12
Hamburger buns, 6
Cheddar cheese, 12 slices
Caramelized onions (recipe below) 
Secret Sauce, 2 cups (recipe below)
Salt and pepper, to taste

Prepare a charcoal grill. Form the ground beef into ¼ pound patties.

Season the hamburger patties with salt and pepper. Cook the hamburgers to your liking. Melt the Cheddar cheese on the patties. Toast the buns on the grill. Place a patty on the bottom bun, top with caramelized onions and secret sauce. Repeat with another patty to make a double burger.

Caramelized Onions:
Spanish onions, 2 medium
Drawn butter, ¼ cup
Salt and pepper, to taste

Peel and slice the onions about ½ inch thick. Cook over low heat with the drawn butter until browned. About 20 minutes.

Secret Sauce:
Mayonnaise, ½ cup
Ketchup, ½ cup
Mustard, ½ cup
Sweet pickle relish, ½ cup
Red wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon
Salt, to taste

Combine all ingredients together and mix thorougly. Season to taste.

The United Center Team Digs In - Literally!

Levy team members at United Center rolled up their shirtsleeves and volunteered their time to help get the Local Farm in Downtown Chicago ready for its busy growing season! The UC group had a blast digging in the dirt under the hot sun! They pulled weeds, moved mulch and rocks, prepped the soil beds and the list goes on. As a part of their Local Partner program, they will be working with the farm and the Chicago Botanic Gardens on growing organic product specifically for the United Center. 

The city farm is where students grow fruits and vegetables, while learning about healthy eating and food’s cultural significance as an after-school program. The students were the real “professionals” showing the UC team the right way to pull weeds and maintain the crops. Everyone had a ton of fun getting to know each other while working hard.

It’s officially summer in Chicago – Fulton’s on the River’s monthly clambakes are back!! Beginning Tuesday, June 5th, Fulton’s hosts the ultimate clambake on the city’s best patio.  Get your bibs ready and dive in to an all-you-can-eat traditional clambake menu along with two tall boys of Half Acre’s Daisy Cutter.

It's Memorial Day Weekend!  Charlotte Motor Speedway is celebrating by hosting the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 and serving up some KILLER food in the process.   To send your taste buds into overdrive, our crew has dreamed up some dangerously de-lish options including: 

Charlotte Burger: angus beef topped with pimento mac & cheese and pork rinds

Funnel Bacakonator: funnel cake topped with chocolate sauce and bacon

Fried Neapolitan Cupcakes on a stick

For those not looking for deep-fried-fun, the track features healthier fare as well including black bean burgers, turkey burgers, fruit and veggie cups.
